BROKEN HILL won Two Awards of Excellence and Three Awards of Merit…

The Awards of Excellence were in the following categories:

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE: ORIGINAL SCORE (Chris Brady)

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE: SOUND EDITING/MIXING (Audioloc)

SYNOPSIS -

In the tradition of Save The Last Dance, Billy Elliott and August Rush comes the musical drama Broken Hill. Tommy was born and raised on a rocky, drought-ridden sheep station in the middle of the Australian Outback. He works at the station and does all he can to appease his demanding father but in his heart wants to be a great musician. That all changes when Tommy meets his new classmate Kat, a bold and brash beauty, who at first doesnt notice him at all. As Tommy tries desperately to get her attention his antics cause him to fall into hot water with the local police. He luckily escapes jail and chooses to do community service at the nearby prison to stay out of trouble. Soon the stakes for Tommy are raised when his music teacher and mentor lands him an audition for the elite music conservatorium. Against all odds, Tommy gains the affections of Kat, finds a way to reconcile with his father and conducts the concert of his life.

“The second directorial effort by Matthew Newton, Three Blind Mice, has picked up the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize at the London Film Festival.

The film screened at both the Melbourne and Sydney Film Festivals earlier this year, and received a commendation from the Gillian Armstrong-lead jury in the latters inaugural competition.

Last week there were some mutters of surprise when the film received no recognition in the 2008 AFI Award nominations.

Three Blind Mice is a fast-paced comedy-drama about three naval officers on shore leave in Sydney, the night before they are due to ship out for Iraq. Newton wrote, directed and acted in the film, which is his second as writer-director after his little seen 2004 debut Right Here Right Now.

The film also screened in the discovery section at the Toronto International Film Festival, screens this week at the AFI Fest in Los Angeles, and will also screen to buyers at this years American Film Market. Odins Eye Entertainment is handling international sales.

Newton, who is currently playing one of the leads, Terry Clark, in the second series of Underbelly, has two more scripts in development, People People and The Dotted Line.”

“To the Sound Crew of All Saints.
First of all congratulations!! All Saints Episode 393 took out the Australian Screen Sound Guild award (again) for Best Sound in a Television Drama.
Secondly, will have to be thank you, to you all for your contribution, support and most of all the dedication each one of you has shown to continue to push the boundaries, reinvigorate and redesign the All Saints sound world with every chance you get. Without this passion and dedication to make the sound of All Saints stand out from the rest a long and trying season of All Saints could become sonically monotonous and mundane. This award is a testament to your skill and commitment. I think you all thoroughly deserve this award. You should all be very proud, as I am proud, to be a part of it. I also have to say that it is a personal pleasure to work with you all and have bonded with you all on a professional level as well created friendships. I also wish to make a special thank you to Audioloc, without whom none of this could run nearly as well oiled as it does.
Your work ripples down the post production line and I get to experience everyone’s work and am able to look at the detail that goes into every Ep. (This also makes my job easier!!!) So thank you and please continue to surprise!!
All the best for the coming year in All Saints sound.”

Nick. (The mixer)
