BROKEN HILL has scooped some significant awards off shore at The Accolade Competition (a California-based indie film competition).

BROKEN HILL won Two Awards of Excellence and Three Awards of Merit…

The Awards of Excellence were in the following categories:

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE: ORIGINAL SCORE (Chris Brady)

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE: SOUND EDITING/MIXING (Audioloc)

SYNOPSIS -

In the tradition of Save The Last Dance, Billy Elliott and August Rush comes the musical drama Broken Hill. Tommy was born and raised on a rocky, drought-ridden sheep station in the middle of the Australian Outback. He works at the station and does all he can to appease his demanding father but in his heart wants to be a great musician. That all changes when Tommy meets his new classmate Kat, a bold and brash beauty, who at first doesnt notice him at all. As Tommy tries desperately to get her attention his antics cause him to fall into hot water with the local police. He luckily escapes jail and chooses to do community service at the nearby prison to stay out of trouble. Soon the stakes for Tommy are raised when his music teacher and mentor lands him an audition for the elite music conservatorium. Against all odds, Tommy gains the affections of Kat, finds a way to reconcile with his father and conducts the concert of his life.

Bright Star in Cinemas Now

Bright Star opened overseas in cinemas on September 18.
Written and directed by Academy Award winner Jane Campion, Bright Star is based on the three-year romance between 19th century poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne, which was cut short by Keats’ untimely death at age 25.
Ben Whishaw (The International, I’m Not There) and Abbie Cornish (Stop-Loss, Elizabeth: The Golden Age) star as John Keats and Fanny Brawne.

“London 1818, a secret love affair begins between 23 year old English poet John Keats and the girl next door Fanny Brawne, an out-spoken student of high fashion. This unlikely pair began at odds, he thinking her a stylish minx, while she was unimpressed not only by his poetry but also by literature in general.
However, when Fanny heard that Keats was nursing his seriously ill younger brother, her efforts to help touched Keats and when she asked him to teach her about poetry he agreed. The poetry soon became a romantic remedy that worked not only to sort their differences but also to fuel an impassioned love affair.”

Imax Theatre Sydney turns 12

The staff at Audio Loc enjoyed a strange reunion with a film they made some fifteen years ago. Having never seen it in 3D, till now, it was truly a special event.

IMAGINE 3D – a film that exploited the full potential of the IMAX format from one of the world’s foremost directors in this genre, John Weilley.

The sound team led by John Dennison & Tony Vaccher, never actually got to see the final finished film, which had been commissioned by DAEWOO for the 1993 World Expo in Korea. So, for them, the screening on Monday night was truly special.

We hope this film gets a run at IMAX Darling Harbour so you can see this largely Australian production – it is a great film.

Nick Holmes was the picture editor
John Dennison, Tony Vaccher, John Patterson, Craig Butters and Peter Miller all contributed to the overall sound design

All Saints 2008

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Craig Butters, who takes over from Nick Byrnes, as the new mixer for All Saints.
Craig is a Bafta Award winning sound editor with extensive experience in both Australia and the UK.
We bid a fond farewell to Nick Byrnes and wish him “all the best” as he sets off for adventures in other areas and foreign lands.
The 2008 sound post team now comprises Paul Huntingford (dialogue), Sasha Zastavnikovic (Fx), Helen Brown and Duncan McAllister (foley) and Craig (mixing).
